About Us
Our desire, first and foremost, is to be pleasing to the Lord.
Therefore we also have as our ambition, whether at home or absent, to be pleasing to Him.
- 2 Corinthians 5:9
It would be nice to fill every pew but that is not our main purpose. Our purpose at North Courtenay is to serve the Lord. We rely upon God's word for our direction. We are non-denominational. This means that we are not under the direction of an overseeing church council or committee. We are an autonomous congregation just as were the churches we read of in the New Testament.
So then, those who had received his word were baptized; and that day there were added about three thousand souls. They were continually devoting themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer.
- Acts 2:41-42
We seek to imitate 1st Century Christianity, following the example and commands that we find in the New Testament. We believe in the example left to us by our Savior in seeking and saving the lost and in showing compassion for others.
But He said to them, “I must preach the kingdom of God to the other cities also, for I was sent for this purpose.”
- Luke 4:43
And seeing the multitudes, He felt compassion for them, because they were distressed and downcast like sheep without a shepherd.
- Matthew 9:36
For you have been called for this purpose, since Christ also suffered for you, leaving you an example for you to follow in His steps.
- 1 Peter 2:21
